Everything is packed with great care. All pieces are nicely bagged and clearly marked. Here is not a huge number of components, and many screws are the same size. All the fit and finish is perfect; every screw and bolt went in smoothly with no galling. The mechanisms for movement are ballscrews and leadscrews with linear actuators on the Y axis. All movements are accurate and precise, and the linear guides assure no extra play or movement where it shouldn't be.
I grabbed a piece of oak for the Wizmaker logo test print. Oak is not a good CNC wood. t is too stringy. But this CNC did a mighty good job carving it. Edges were clean, and just a little sanding was needed. This was like a worst case example, and the Wizmaker achieved impressive results cutting it. f I had adjusted the spindle speed and cutting speed, I'm sure I could get stable, repeatable cuts. I'm going to try other woods, aluminum, brass, and plastics next.
The hand controller works good for simple tests and movement. can load a cut file off a USB and cut it, but using the supplied Candle software was so much easier and more reliable. Jobs can be paused and restarted straightforward in Candle.
The files on the USB drive are a treasure chest of manuals, tables, demo files, and other very useful information. I'm hanging onto this for future upgrades when they're available.
The PDF manual on the USB drive has info to get going with the Candle software. It is very intuitive to use. Candle also will do a zero set for the spindle. I measured my zero set puck, and it matched the included G-code, so no adjustments were needed. After setting the spindle height, and the origin point for the cut, the run button can be moved, and it will run fully to the end. You can at any point pause the job. And if you require it, the emergency stop can be pressed to just stop everything on the CNC. I only had to use the emergency stop once when I forgot to attach the probe wire to the router bit for the bit depth setter. If it doesn't get the electrical signal to stop travel, it will continually travel down, which could ruin the metal and plastic puck and the router bit. This little CNC has a lot of power, and this will cause some definite damage.
Note that the origin points for the included sample drawings are given and right at the center of the drawing. Usually an origin is not at the lower left edge where X=0, Y=0. The size of the workpiece can be measured with the hand controller, and it can calculate the exact center origin point in the material. With this CNC, having the origin at the center of the workpiece, the build quality of the Wizmaker is superb. There are no plastic parts on any of the drive components. The main case is well constructed steel. And thick, lightweight anodized aluminum on key parts of all the axis and guides. It is very strong and well machined. I can see the extra case that Wizmaker used in sourcing the components and building the best machine for the price range.
I filmed this cutting and fast forwarded through a few cuts. It can take a while to run a job depending on many variables. Mostly the spindle power, speed, and bit efficiency. I was surprised at how fast and accurate the cuts this makes.
It is much quieter than any of my routers. I still wear ear protection, but the sound doesn't carry out into other rooms in the house. I put this on a Festool MFT/3 as it fit perfectly, and I can clamp it down. This table isn't the most stable; still, the Wizmaker has accurate cutting and performance on it.
The included gooseneck LED light is a considerable bonus to see the full cutting action. On my phome camera it overexposes but with my eyes I see the cut line fine. The light works well and is easy to position as needed.
I understand Wizmaker will be releasing a laser option for engraving on this. The controller is already set up with the extra connections. It also has ports for a 4th axis, which would help in engraving tumblers. I am excited to try these options in the future.
The Wizmaker is a considerable value for its overall accuracy and high build quality. It is a remarkable CNC and controller in a price range that many can now afford a quality machine.
